A few minutes with Kameisha Hodge ’11

EASTON, Pa.(news.lafayette.edu) — Kameisha Hodge ’11, of Washington, D.C., is an English major. She’s a graduate of Friendship Collegiate Academy.

What attracted you to Lafayette?

Four alumni from my high school had received the Posse Scholarship, and two of them (Treyvon Jackson and LaMika Robinson) had come to Lafayette. A program that my school offered allowed some students to go on a college tour (including RIT, Columbia, SUNY-Buffalo, and Lafayette). Once I set eyes on Skillman and the Quad, I was in love. It was so crazy! LaMika gave a mini tour of Watson and Hugel. I am so in love with the fact that none of my classes have ever had more than 20 students, except for my psych lecture, which had 90 students. Lafayette is so beautiful in the spring and fall. The winters are kind of brutal, but it is just a small adjustment compared to the lifetime of opportunities I have in store.

Tell us about some of your most fascinating Lafayette experiences.

Just being in an environment that is 100 percent different from my high school in itself is fascinating, because I never thought that I’d be here. It’s so diversified, not to its fullest extent, I believe, but much more than what I’m used to.

Your favorite courses and professors?

My favorite courses, which should have been more obvious to me, are the ones that involve English, art, and the humanities as opposed to science, math, and history. I naturally enjoy learning, but not those things that don’t particularly cater to the intellectual stimulation that comes from gray areas. If it’s in black and white (such as math), then there’s not much individualism or ideas that are cultivated. I did, however, enjoy psychology with Prof. John Shaw. He is so hilarious and cool! He was interactive and came to us when he noticed that we were doing bad or doing well in his class. I love that guy!

Any student groups or activities?

I am the vice-president of W.O.R.D.S. (Writing Organization Reaching Dynamic Students) and a member of NIA and ABC. I am also a Resident Adviser alternate, I volunteer sometimes with Landis Community Outreach Center, and I serve as a Gateway Ambassador.
