Article about Jim Toia, director of the art department’s Community-Based Teaching program, appears in Lehigh Valley Style magazine
Lehigh Valley Style magazine features Jim Toia, director of the art department’s Community-Based Teaching program, and his artwork in its September 2009 edition.

The article, “The Process Principle,” focuses on Toia’s collaborative artistic process, the inspiration behind his creativity, and his work in the Knee Deep & Risin’ multimedia exhibition, which ran in the fall of 2008 in the Grossman Gallery of the Williams Visual Arts Building.

Toia’s work has appeared in more than 85 solo exhibitions and group shows around the world, and he has taught a variety of studio art courses at the College. He played a key role in developing the Community-Based Teaching program in which Lafayette faculty, honors students in art, and visiting professional artists work with area high school and adult art students.

Toia also is the founding coordinator of the Maggin Family Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship program. The new initiative provides selected members of each year’s incoming class with up to $7,500 over their four years at the College to pursue interests in the arts through special projects, internships, research, study abroad, and other activities.
