As a government and law major at Lafayette, Kimberly Sica ’04 never pictured herself working at one of the world’s most notorious magazines: Playboy. She began her career as an intern in the magazine’s fast-paced marketing division before moving on to other opportunities.

“Being that young and seeing those famous celebrities was an amazing experience, but I knew I didn’t want to work at the magazine forever,” she says.

Kimberly was always driven. As a student at Lafayette, she was a leader for the orientation program.

“It was so much fun and I was able to meet so many people,” she says. “It was a great responsibility to make those freshmen feel comfortable and be their first positive impression of Lafayette!”

Kimberly is grateful for the assistance she received from the Office of Career Services when she was a student. “If it weren’t for Rachel Moller, I don’t know if I ever would have gotten a job,” she says.

After her time at Playboy, Kimberly worked closely with career services and ultimately landed a job at the magazine Quick and Simple — perhaps thanks to her Lafayette connections. When Kimberly went for her interview, she was met by the woman who had been her externship host during her junior year.

“I was shocked,” she says. “It was so cool to see someone I had worked with earlier. That’s the true bliss of small community connections.” She went on to become assistant editor at Quick and Simple.

Kimberly left Quick and Simple for her current role at Macy’s head office in New York City, where she looks after the advertising for the department store’s fragrances, watches, and jewelry. She was responsible for developing a concept for the launch of the store’s big denim campaign. Her campaign, “Pure Jeanius,” was featured throughout the East Coast and in national newspaper and magazine advertisements.

“That was one of the biggest events I’ve been involved in,” she says. “My time here has been amazing!”

Now she’s paying back the help she received at College by hosting internships and externships for Lafayette students.

“The community feeling at Lafayette is awesome,” she said. “Not many other schools have alumni who are so dedicated to the success of the alumni-to-be!”
