An interdisciplinary team of students and faculty has recently returned to campus after spending a week working on an economic development project in the rural village of Lagunitas, Honduras. For the past two years, members of the College’s Economic Empowerment and Global Learning Project have helped the villagers build a 30,000-plant coffee plantation. The first 15,000 plants are now harvested and ready to be sold. The team also helped facilitate the construction of a poultry farm and developed plans to help the villagers build their own community center, which will include a meeting room, kitchen, and private medical room.
