Neil J. McElroy, dean of libraries and information technology services, will take on an additional role as special assistant to President Daniel H. Weiss for information technology strategies.

John O’Keefe, director of academic technology and network services, has been named senior director of information technology services. He will now oversee administrative information systems as well as academic technology and network services.

Weiss and Wendy L. Hill, provost and dean of the faculty, announced the changes in a message to the campus community Oct. 28.

“The alignment of the College’s senior information technology officer, Neil McElroy, with the President’s Office reflects our view of the strategic importance of information technology for the future of the College, and the new structure for our information technology operations will enable a more integrated approach to the management of IT campus-wide,” they wrote. O’Keefe will continue to report to McElroy. The changes are effective immediately.

O’Keefe has served as director of academic technology and network services since 2005. He has played a principal role in reshaping the IT organization following its merger with the library, providing strategic vision and direction for desktop support, help desk, networking infrastructure, servers and systems, application development, and Instructional Technology. Among other significant accomplishments, he played a key role in planning an overhaul of the campus network infrastructure, managing a team of network engineers and consultants through the project’s design and implementation stages. More recently, he led the joint ITS/Communications Division team responsible for transformation of the College’s web site.

A 1996 Lafayette graduate, O’Keefe joined the College as an instructional technologist in 2001. He was promoted to manager of instructional technology in 2003.

McElroy has served as dean of libraries and information technology services since 2007. He joined the College as director of libraries in 1990. He became director of libraries and academic information resources in 1997 and served in that role until 2005, when he became director of libraries and information technology services.
