The Williams Visual Arts Building (WVAB) provides students with a hands-on approach to learning made possible by interweaving the art professors’ personal studios with the central teaching areas. This barrier-free learning environment coupled with state-of-the-art technology allows students to develop close relationships with their mentors while pursuing drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpting, digital art, and photography.
January will mark the building’s 10-year anniversary. When it was constructed from the shell of the aging Hoffman Motor Company building, WVAB served as a glimpse into the future revitalization of an area of Easton that had fallen into various states of disrepair.
Located at Lafayette’s main entrance on North Third Street, WVAB now serves as the anchor for the new $10 million Williams Arts Campus, which will be the headquarters for the College’s new theater and film & media studies programs. The building also houses the Richard A. and Rissa W. Grossman Gallery and the College’s Community-Based Teaching program.
Named after Morris R. Williams ’22, the building and the arts campus are funded by major gifts from the Williams family, which through the years has continually supported Lafayette’s commitment to the arts as an intrinsic part of campus life.
