Donna Krivoski with her recipe for grilled salmon

Donna Krivoski prepares winning recipe.

If you thought apple cider was only for drinking, think again. That’s just what Donna Krivoski, director of parent relations, did. And, by having an imagination that could envision a wide arrange of possibilities, she won Zeigler’s National Apple Cider Recipe Contest.

“It is the first recipe contest I have ever entered,” Krivoski says. “I was so surprised when I received an email in late December informing me that my recipe was the winner!” She also received a letter by mail stating that she had won the Grand Prize of $1,000 plus a year’s supply of Zeigler’s products.

Krivoski’s winning recipe (see below) for Grilled Zeigler’s Salmon with Cider Reduction was chosen from more than 70 entries by Zeigler’s staff.

Entries had to be original creations. “Jim had to try several versions until I was satisfied that the recipe was just right,” she says, referring to her husband, Jim Krivoski, vice president for student affairs and executive assistant to the president.

The recipe is featured on the bottle label and on Zeigler’s web \site. On one of her many trips to the store to buy additional bottles for gifts, one of the high school student check-out clerks asked if that was her on the bottle. “I said yes, and she replied, ‘Wow, are you like a millionaire?’”

Krivoski plans to use the prize for a trip with her daughter to Granada, Nicaragua. They will attend Nicaragua Mia, a Spanish immersion school, and live with a family to learn more about the culture. After classes in the morning, they will do volunteer work in the afternoon.

Zeigler’s is based in Lansdale, Pa., but the cider is available in 32 states in the fall season.
