Jordan Parsons ’13 led the softball team this semester with a 3.93 grade point average.

In the College’s 13 Division I spring sports, 173 students were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the honor roll, student athletes need to record at least a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) during the semester.

This year, Lafayette has set the bar for Patriot League academic performance as 16 of Lafayette’s 23 sports received 2010-11 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP) Public Recognition Awards. These awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with their academic progress reports. Spring sports which received awards are baseball, women’s basketball, golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, and track and field.

Eighteen members of the baseball team were named the academic honor roll. Peter Ferrara ’12 (Easton, Pa.), a double major in economics and policy studies, and Jonathan Ho ’14 (Hopkinton, Mass.), a chemical engineering major, both led the team with 4.0 GPAs last semester.

The men’s basketball team had seven members on the list. Ryan Willen ’12 (Cape Girardeau, Mo.), who was third on the team in scoring with 10.4 points per game, led the Leopards with a 3.85 GPA. A neuroscience major, Willen was also named a member of the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League Team and the Capital One Academic All-District II Team.

Four members of the women’s basketball team were named to the honor roll. Samantha Jordan ’13 (Manassas, Va.) led the team with a 3.93 GPA. An international affairs major, Jordan appeared in all 30 games for the Leopards in 2010-11 and averaged 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest.

Seven Lafayette golfers were on the list. David Kafafian ’13 (East Brunswick, N.J.) led the Leopards with a 4.0 GPA. Kafafian, who is a double major in economics and government & law, was previously honored as a member of the Academic All-Patriot League Team.

A league-leading 28 members of the men’s lacrosse team were named to the honor roll. This is the second year in a row that the team has led the league. Three Leopards maintained 4.0 GPAs: Andrew Fullen ’11, who graduated with an A.B. in economics; Cesar Munoz ’11, who graduated with an A.B. in government and law; and economics major Colin Serling ’12 (Rockville Center, N.Y.).  The women’s lacrosse team placed 15 students on the honor roll. Sam Dalmass ’13 (Moorestown, N.J.), a double major in English and government & law, earned a team-high 3.93 GPA.

Thirteen softball players were named to the honor roll. Jordan Parsons ’13 (Escondido, Calif.), a government and law major, led the team with a 3.93 GPA.

A combined 41 members of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving team made the list. Leah Goldberg ’11, who graduated with a B.S. in neuroscience; Victoria Pocius ’11, who graduated with a B.S. in biology; and Stephen Gadomski ’11, who graduated with a B.S. in biology, posted team high 4.0 GPAs. The 18 students on the honor roll from the men’s team were the most in the Patriot League.

Six members of the men’s tennis team, and five members of the women’s tennis team were named to the honor roll. Matthew Scheps ’12 (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) a civil engineering major, led the men with a 3.94 GPA, and Allie Seranko ’11, who graduated with an A.B. with majors in international affairs and Spanish, led the women with a 3.90 GPA. Seranko was also named Second Team All-Patriot League on the court and Academic All-Patriot League in the classroom.

The track and field teams placed 29 students on the honor roll with 12 from the men’s team and 17 from the women’s team. Nick Orzol ’13 (Mercerville, N.J.), an electrical and computer engineering major, Michael Thompson ’12 (Shokan, N.Y.), a civil engineering major, and Allison Hawkey ’11, who graduated with an A.B. with majors in anthropology & sociology and history, led the teams with 4.0 GPAs.
