President Daniel H. Weiss

The Boys & Girls Club of Easton will present the 2011 Martin Zippel Award to Lafayette President Daniel H. Weiss and Martin Till, publisher of The Express-Times newspaper.

The award is presented in recognition of an individual or business who has demonstrated outstanding integrity, leadership, and consistency in support of the Boys & Girls Club of Easton, its vision and mission statements, and who has made major contributions in improving the quality of life in the Greater Lehigh Valley.

A ceremony will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in the Wilson Room of Pfenning Alumni Center. Following the ceremony at 8 p.m. will be the annual Easton Jazz Festival held in the Williams Center for the Arts. The festival serves as one of the club’s largest fundraisers.

Weiss and Till are co-chairs for the Boys & Girls Club of Easton’s capital campaign, both made personal investments, and are credited in helping the club raise nearly $500,000 needed to support the club’s capital campaign goal.

“In addition to being well-known quality individuals, both Dan and Martin are pillars in the community and most deserving of our recognition,” says Dean Young, executive director for the Boys & Girls Club of Easton.

The Martin Zippel Award was established by Young in 1996 in honor of Martin Zippel ’49, a past club president and proactive member of the board of directors. The award recognizes Zippel’s outstanding leadership, dedication, and financial support of the club since its opening in 1974.

Weiss received the Community Partner Award (2006) and the Community Development Award (2011) from the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Community Service Award (2007) from the Two Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce.
