Blake Fink ’13
Cross country runner Rose Willey ’14 (Brookfield, Conn.), field hockey player Emily Valeo ’13 (Norristown, Pa.), football players Brandon Ellis ’12 (Jeffersonville, Pa.) and Mark Ross ’14 (Aliquippa, Pa.), and soccer players Blake Fink ’13 (Westampton, N.J.) and Graham Heydt ’12 (Northbrook, Ill.) have been selected to the Academic All-Patriot League team for their respective sports.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher while contributing as a starter or key reserve.
Willey, a mathematics-economics major, has a 4.0 GPA, was selected to the 2010 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and was named Rookie of the Week last season. This year, she placed 53rd at the Patriot League Championships with a time of 24:14.9 and took 12th at the Leopard Invitational.
Valeo, an English major, has a 3.69 GPA and is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection. She was named Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 26 -Oct. 2 and picked up her second All-Patriot League accolade after being named to the Second Team last season. The field hockey team captured the 2011 Patriot League Championship with a 3-1 victory over fourth-seeded Bucknell.

“Emily has worked extremely hard at her academics and her hockey skills,” says field hockey head coach Andrew Griffiths. “It is no surprise that she excels in both areas.”
Ellis, an economics major, has a 3.49 GPA and was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II Team for the second time in his career. He serves as a peer mentor in the College’s Academic Tutoring and Training Information Center and as a Gateway ambassador for career services. On the field, Ellis garnered First-Team All-Patriot League honors as he led Lafayette with 11 pass breakups from the cornerback position. He was fourth on the team with 70 tackles while starting every game.
Ross, an economics major, has a 3.59 GPA. A 2011 All-Patriot League Second-Team honoree, Ross led the Leopards in receiving with 49 catches for 703 yards and nine touchdowns. His 14.3 yards per catch average ranked fourth in the league, and he had 11 plays of more than 20 yards.
Fink, a government and law major, has a 3.78 GPA and was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District II Team. He ranked second on the Leopards with four goals and nine points. Two of his goals were game-winners. Fink was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in both 2009 and 2010.
A mathematics-economics major with a 3.68 GPA, Heydt appeared on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010. This season, the goalkeeper ranked third in Division I with a .908 save percentage and was fifth in the nation with a 0.50 goals-against average (GAA). In seven Patriot League matches, he led all goalkeepers in every statistical category – GAA (0.26), saves (45), save percentage (.957), saves per match (6.43), and shutouts (5).
Academic success has been a constant under men’s soccer head coach Dennis Bohn. The 2010 Leopards earned the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for the third straight year, as the squad’s collective 3.38 GPA ranked among the 10 best in Division I. On the pitch, Lafayette concluded the 2011 campaign at 9-5-4, the program’s 11th consecutive winning season, and wrapped up the regular season ranked fourth in the nation in team defense with a 0.47 goals-against average.
