The College celebrated the 256th birthday of the Marquis de Lafayette last weekend during the 12th annual Block pARTy and the football game against Sacred Heart. The Marquis, played by historical interpreter Loic Barnieu, made an appearance at the Block pARTy, where he cut his birthday cake and distributed cupcakes to visitors.

Later during the game, President Alison Byerly introduced the Marquis and led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday.” The Marquis was also interviewed on the Lafayette Sports Network game broadcast during halftime.

To complete this year’s celebration, Diane Shaw, College archivist and director of special collections, presented the talk “On Tour with the Nation’s Guest: The Marquis de Lafayette in America, 1824-25” today in Skillman Library.
