Quarterback Drew Reed ’17 has been named the Patriot League Football Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, the first time that a first-year student has won the offensive honor and the lone occurrence of a player winning both awards concurrently. He also garnered the College Football Performance Awards Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Performer of the Week honor.
In his first collegiate start, Reed completed 21 of 22 passes for 283 yards and five touchdowns without any interceptions, leading the Leopards to a key 41-23 win that pushed them to 2-0 in the Patriot League. Reed completed his final 20 passes, tying the Patriot League record for consecutive completions.
The five passing touchdowns were the most by a Patriot League quarterback this season, and the top mark for a Leopard signal-caller since Rob Curley ’10 had a school and Patriot League record with seven against Colgate Nov. 7, 2009.
Reed’s passing efficiency rating of 278.5 was the second-best single-game mark in the FCS this season. In the last two games, he has completed 38 of 44 passes for 518 yards and seven touchdowns. He has more touchdowns passes (seven) than incompletions (six).
