Erol Ulucakli

Professor Ulucakli was a warm and gentlemanly presence in the Mechanical Engineering Department for nearly 30 years. He taught courses in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and bioengineering, as well as a popular First-year Seminar in which he shared his enthusiasm for engineering innovation, and a seminar on energy issues. He returned often to his native Turkey, sometimes leading groups of students on well-received interim courses.

Erol’s research topics ranged from experimental fluid dynamics to thermal ablation of tumors, and he was passionate about improving energy efficiency, working with student teams to redesign and “green”-ify buildings in Easton’s West Ward.

He was also a great fan (and whistler) of classical music, and justifiably proud of his beloved daughter Ebru and her family.
