The Leopards have broken out a classic look for the season.

Lafayette men’s basketball team recently took to the court at Kirby Sports Center wearing throwback uniforms featuring a nostalgic fountain pen-style font—a near-replica of uniforms the team wore during the late 1980s, including for a memorable win over Notre Dame during the ’87-’88 season.

The vintage vibe was the brainchild of Seth Holiday, director of equipment services, who originally had another sport in mind when he was thinking of a look from decades past.

“It’s funny how it worked out. I was looking to do some throwback looks for our football team, and I had reached out to the archives department and got a whole file with old logos and uniforms from the past. Looking through the pictures, I found the ones for basketball and thought they were the most unique,” Holiday says. “I reached out to Dale Mack in Communications and we worked on recreating the Lafayette for the jersey and LC for the shorts. Once we got the logos finalized, I ordered the jerseys and had them embellished at Pro Jerseys in New York, which specializes in recreations and tackle-twill.”

Holiday further shares that the team plans to wear the jerseys for the remainder of the current season, as well as upcoming seasons, but also add some new home jerseys so they’ll have options to wear different jerseys for different occasions.

Like the throwback look? You can get your hands on some vintage Lafayette basketball threads at the College Store, including hoodies, T-shirts, ball caps, and beanies. The items are being advertised as “limited edition,” as there is no plan to restock once they are sold out.
