Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Kim Spang, Vice President for Development and College Relations

Kim Spang, Vice President for Development and College Relations.

I am writing to share that after two decades of impactful service to the College, our Vice President for Development and College Relations Kim Spang will be leaving Lafayette to become the next Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Haverford College, effective Aug. 1, 2023.

Kim has served Lafayette in her current VP role since August of 2014, overseeing more than 45 professionals in the offices of development, alumni relations, and previously career services. She has also served as a liaison to the Board of Trustees’ Governance and Development, Alumni and Community Relations Committees. She joined the College in 2003, holding positions in major gifts and the annual fund before being appointed Associate Vice President of Development in 2010.

Kim led the College through its historic Live Connected, Lead Change campaign and helped guide development through the global recession of 2008 as well as through presidential transitions in 2013 and 2021. The Live Connected, Lead Change campaign concluded in December 2018 and significantly exceeded its targets, raising a total of $425 million from more than 27,000 donors and 5,000 volunteers.

Under Kim’s leadership, the College launched several programs to inspire donors, engage more volunteers, and bring back disengaged alumni, including:

  • Leading a number of alumni and donor events in support of the 150th Lafayette-Lehigh football game played at Yankee Stadium;
  • Creating the Fleck Consistent Giving Society to recognize alumni who make financial gifts for five or more consecutive years, which now includes more than 7,400 alumni and has seen its membership increase more than 75 percent since it launched;
  • Establishing the First Women of Lafayette to engage our pioneering women from the 1970s with special events and fundraising that has created the First Women of Lafayette Scholarship; and
  • Restructuring of the Alumni Association to integrate and align with regional leadership councils and other leadership groups.

Prior to joining Lafayette in 2003, Kim worked as a Senior Sales and Marketing Manager for the Walt Disney Corporation for nine years and in Admissions for DeSales University.

Kim’s volunteer work in the community has included serving as a board member on the Greater Easton Development Partnership (GEDP), a non-profit entity focused on Easton’s economic well-being, historical integrity, programmatic development, vibrant culture and urban hospitality. She has also served as a board member on the Easton Area Industrial Land Development Company, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for the acquisition and restoration of commercial buildings in Easton’s historic district.

Kim has graciously agreed to remain in her position through July 20 as we finalize plans to bring on a seasoned development professional with VP experience to join us on an interim basis while a national search is conducted for a successor. We plan to announce that interim appointment before Kim’s tenure concludes.

Please join me in wishing our exceptional colleague and friend all the best as she begins a new chapter at Haverford.

President Nicole Hurd
