In the media: In Marketplace report, Prof. Julie Smith offers word of the year for Federal Reserve

Prof. Julie Smith was among several economists asked by Marketplace in its Dec. 13 report to offer a word of the year to describe the Federal Reserve’s policy actions.

After each economist suggested a word for 2023, the program host changed direction and asked Smith, Frank Lee and Edna M. Smith Professor of Economics and assistant department head, to offer a word for 2024. Smith is a frequent guest on Marketplace, American Public Media’s flagship business news program.
