Celebrating faculty: Named chairs and professorships

Named chairs and professorships are the highest honors bestowed upon faculty members, acknowledging their contributions to teaching and research. Recently, the College reappointed three faculty members who previously held endowed positions. Daniel Sabatino, associate professor, mechanical engineering, has been reappointed as the Robert W. Adenbaum ’49 Scholar in Entrepreneurial Studies. Markus Dubischar, associate provost and associate professor, has been reappointed as the Charles Elliott Scholar of Latin and Greek. Megan Fernandes, associate professor, English, has been reappointed as the Writer-in-Residence Scholar, a role that is funded by the Francis March Endowment. 

In addition, six faculty members were newly named to endowed positions: David Sunderlin, John H. Markle Professorship; David Brandes, Air Products/Seifollah Ghasemi Chair in Engineering for Interdisciplinary Teaching; David Nice, Charles A. Dana Professor of Physics; Lisa Gabel, William C. ’67 and Pamela Rappolt Professor in Neuroscience; Jennifer Talarico, Marshall R. Metzgar Professor of Psychology; Michelle Geoffrion-Vinci, Thomas Roy and Lura Forrest Jones Professor of Languages and Literary Studies.

“It is an honor to celebrate this group of faculty, teachers, and scholars publicly,” says Provost Laura McGrane. “Across disciplines, their work has expanded our understanding of the earth and space; of the human mind; of the built environment; and of storytelling, arts, and culture. Their explorations with students in the classroom, lab, and field are especially compelling, and we look forward to learning more from each of them in the coming years.”
