John Kincaid, Robert B. and Helen S. Meyner Professor of Government and Public Service, was quoted in a Nov. 30 WFMZ-69 News report about the federal legislative action taken to avert a nationwide rail strike.
By a 290 to 137 bipartisan vote, the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 30, at the urging of President Biden, voted to approve legislation that imposes a labor agreement between rail companies and their employees, heading off a strike that would have likely affected supply chains heading into the holiday season.
“A railroad strike would have a devastating impact on the economy and that would have much more political blowback,” Kincaid told WFMZ-69 News, noting that the federal government has a long history of regulating the railroad industry.
