He plans to use $50,000-per-year award to study law at Harvard University

Frank Sabatini ’09 has been selected from more than 1,000 students nationwide to receive a 2009 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship.Sabatini, who graduated May 23 with an A.B. with a major in English, will use the award to attend law school at Harvard University this fall. He plans to become a law professor or practice public interest law.

Scholarships were awarded to 30 seniors and recent graduates planning to attend graduate school for the first time this fall. Lafayette is the only exclusively undergraduate liberal arts and engineering college among the institutions whose students were honored.

Awards cover a portion of educational expenses up to $50,000 per year for up to six years of study. Sabatini also was part of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Young Scholars Program, which provides financial assistance for academic expenses in both high school and at an undergraduate institution.

Sabatini has taken advantage of the opportunities Lafayette offers for undergraduate research with faculty mentors. He conducted an honors thesis analyzing the novel The Quest of the Silver Fleece by W.E.B. Du Bois under the guidance of Bryan Washington, associate professor of English.

Sabatini also was a member of the Lafayette Forensics Society’s national championship team, a McKelvy House Scholar, and a trombonist with the Concert Band and Jazz Combo.
