Lafayette officially opened the 183rd academic year with Convocation ceremonies Sunday. The event is the final part of new student orientation, but students from all class years are invited to attend. The ceremony is presided over by President Alison Byerly and includes the new tradition of presenting the sword of the Marquis de Lafayette to the incoming class.

Classes begin today.
