Steve Gadomski '11

Steve Gadomski ’11 (Moorestown, N.J.) sat down and discussed biology, swimming, medical school, and the importance of leadership.

What’s your major and what do you like about your major?
I’m a biology major. I’ve had keys to the building since my first year, which is when I started doing research. I am very fond of the relationships I’ve built with some of the professors there. They’re a fun bunch.

One class every Lafayette student should try to take is…
…Contemporary Fiction with English professor Ian Smith. This was an incredible class for two reasons: I was outside of my comfort zone (again, I’m a biology major!) and Professor Smith is a brilliant teacher and just a bit intimidating.

What is most unique academic experience you have had at Lafayette?
I spent seven weeks in London on an interim trip that focused on a comparative study of healthcare between the United States and the United Kingdom.

What are your plans after graduation?
I’m hoping to attend medical school. So far, I have been accepted to Tufts University Medical School and Thomas Jefferson Medical School.

In what ways can a senior be a leader in an “individual” sport like swimming?
Seniors provide guidance and experience for the underclassmen, especially the first-year student-athletes. In practice, the seniors help to maintain discipline and occasionally serve to lighten the mood. Overall, our leadership stems from our experience and confidence in the team’s ability to perform well at championships.

Sport you would play other than your own?
Volleyball: I used to play that in high school. It’s sick.

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Alaska: I’ve heard Sarah Palin has a nice backyard.

Something about me that others would be surprised to hear is…
…I’m unable to grow a full beard despite my best attempts.
