After batting .418 with six home runs and 21 RBI in Patriot League play, catcher A.J. Miller ’11 (Manasquan, N.J.) has been named the 2011 Patriot League Baseball Player of the Year. Miller, just the fourth catcher to garner the honor, is joined on the All-Patriot League First Team by centerfielder Rob Froio ’11 (Midlothian, Ill.).

In the 20-game Patriot League season, Miller led all players with a .512 on-base percentage and .761 slugging percentage. He ranked second in batting average (.418); third in hits (28), RBI (21), home runs (six) and total bases (51); fourth in walks (14); and seventh in runs scored (17).

Miller, an economics major, has been recognized as one of the top catchers in the nation, landing on the 2011 Johnny Bench Award Watch List. In 46 games played in 2011, he is batting .397 with 12 home runs, 14 doubles, and 52 RBI. Miller shares the single-season (12) and career (22) record for home runs at Lafayette with Bob Osipower ’00.

Lafayette has landed a player on the All-Patriot League First Team in eight of 12 seasons under head coach Joe Kinney.
