Enjoy all that the Arts at Lafayette has to offer during the four-day Fall Arts Festival at Lafayette College.
The third annual festival is open to all and will feature a slate of activities Oct. 1-4 in celebration of Arts & Humanities Month, made possible by support from Lehigh Valley 250.
Fall Arts Festival kicks off Thurs., Oct. 1 with a moonlit, immersive outdoor Theater Department performance of Nevermore.
Fri., Oct. 2 promises Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Pedro Almodóvar, 1988) on the Landis Cinema screen and a musical performance by LADAMA, an all women Pan Latinx band, at Williams Center for the Arts.
On Sat., Oct. 3, visitors can explore the Community Arts Fair in Ahart Plaza, running in tandem with Easton Garlic Fest. The fair will feature local artists, cultural organizations, and a range of activities for all ages—even pups!
Visitors can help craft a large garlic bulb with Lehigh Valley Zine Exchange, as part of a communal art project in honor of Easton Garlic Fest, create large-scale magnetic word poetry with the Lafayette Poetry Club, or stage a photo complete with costumes and props thanks to Lehigh Valley Youth Theater.
Artwork from Easton Area School District fourth graders will be on display, inspired by their spring visit to Lafayette for the Bicentennial Art History Docent project. The plaza will be home to a pocket art gallery pop-up, with miniature works of art created by faculty, staff, and students. And four-legged friends can enjoy a starring role in a photo booth just for pups.
The Community Arts Fair will offer a slate of interactive activities.
Kath Yarkosky, EPI printer and adjunct professor at Lafayette, joined by two student assistants, will lead a screen-printing station where visitors can print tote bags featuring a custom Leopard image designed by artist Al Johnson. Visitors can then take their bags to Grossman Gallery to view Johnson’s exhibition and have him autograph them during a meet-the-artist event (4-6 p.m. Oct. 3).
Performances will be featured throughout the day, including Good Human Improv Company, Lehigh Valley Dance Exchange, Easton Municipal Band, and East-Tones Music School. Pesky Artist-in-Residence Mahmoud Chouki will perform a jazz concert with Lafayette music faculty and alumni (8 p.m. Oct. 3, Williams Center for the Arts).
Elena Rossi-Snook, film specialist and collection manager for The New York Public Library, will host a free screening and conversation, Democracy in Practice: Educational Film in America, to close out the festival Sun., Oct. 4.
