TORTORA ’06 COMPARES BUSINESS WAGES

Working as an EXCEL Scholar with Christopher Ruebeck, assistant professor of economics and business, Michael Tortora ’06 is running a computerized study to research the relationships among firm size, incentive pay, and non-salary compensation. He is starting goalie on the men’s soccer team and a peer mentor.

TALIAS ’07 GAINS EXPERIENCE IN PROFESSIONAL ART

Sara Talias ’07 is designing clothing and posters as an EXCEL Scholar assisting Ed Kerns, Clapp Professor of Art and director of the Williams Visual Arts Building. Through her work she has gained an edge over some who have been in the profession for years.

SERVICES TO RESUME AT SKILLMAN LIBRARY

Circulation, reference, interlibrary loan, and instructional technology services will resume in early September at Skillman Library. Browsing books and current periodicals will be in place in early September. A cafe will open later in the semester in the Common Room on the first floor.

MEN’S SOCCER TO BE TELEVISED TO NATIONAL AUDIENCE ON CSTV

Coming off its 2003 NCAA Tournament berth, men’s soccer will be on national TV on CSTV. The Oct. 10 game with Bucknell will be produced and carried live locally by Lafayette Sports Network on RCN-4 and WBPH-60 and will be re-broadcast at 8 p.m. on CSTV on Oct. 14, one of just six regular-season matches CSTV will televise this season.

FOOTBALL TO LEAD NATION AGAIN IN NATIONALLY TELEVISED GAMES

For the second year, the football program will lead the nation among Division I-AA teams in 2004 with the most nationally televised games. Lafayette Sports Network will broadcast the entire schedule on Empire Sports Network, DIRECTV, and DISH Network, while select telecasts will air on CSTV.

NEW SHUTTLE SERVICE

The College now offers a free-of-charge shuttle bus service from main campus to Metzgar Fields, downtown Easton, Forks Town Center, Northampton Crossings, and Palmer Park and Lehigh Valley malls. Dubbed “LCATS” (Lafayette Campus Area Transportation System), schedules will be adjusted as usage is observed, so check the times and locations regularly.

THREE TO BE INDUCTED INTO MAROON CLUB HALL OF FAME

Liz Bagley-Stankavage, Robert P. Falconiero, and David Hubinger will be honored Nov. 19 at the 28th Maroon Club Athletic Hall of Fame dinner. They join only 98 others enshrined since 1976-77.

PRYOR ’71 NAMED TO TOP POST AT EXXONMOBIL

On Aug. 1, Stephen D. Pryor ’71 became deputy to the president, ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company. He joined the company in 1971 and had been executive vice president, ExxonMobil Chemical Company, since January 2002.
