Research areas: Fernandes’ research areas include poetics; creative writing; 20th/21st century American literature; science and environmental writing; and feminist and queer theory. She is the author of numerous publications and poems, and winner of a distinct list of honors and awards, including recent fellowships to the Yaddo Foundation and Hawthornden Foundation. She has had multiple poems published in The New Yorker, and her forthcoming book, I DO EVERYTHING I’M TOLD (Tin House), will be out next summer.


Her Lafayette journey: Fernandes joined the Lafayette faculty in 2015. She earned a Ph.D. in English from University of California, Santa Barbara and an MFA in poetry from Boston University.
